Paris School of Management (PSM) is proud to highlight the participation of its Dean, Dario Silic, at a high-level conference organized by The Economist. The event brought together policymakers, economists, and industry leaders to examine the shifting geopolitical and economic dynamics shaping Europe and the world.

The conference was chaired by Joan Hoey, editor of The Democracy Index and Europe consultant at Economist Intelligence. In her opening address, Hoey presented Economist Intelligence’s latest analysis of the global and European landscape—one defined by economic uncertainty, strategic realignments, and technological transformation.

The conference opened as part of the Second Annual Croatia Summit, where Croatia’s Prime Minister, Mr. Andrej Plenković, underscored the European Union’s commitment to strengthening its strategic autonomy. He emphasized Croatia’s growing role within the bloc.

In her keynote presentation, Joan Hoey outlined three categories of forces currently shaping the global economy: tailwinds, crosswinds, and headwinds.

Tailwinds:

  • AI-driven investment is accelerating capital expenditure and boosting equity markets.
  • Lower policy rates are normalizing yield curves and encouraging global consumption.
  • Services sectors remain robust, bolstered by AI adoption and strong demand in leisure and hospitality.

Crosswinds:

  • The US trade war is rerouting global trade flows and reshaping supply chains.
  • Several economies are benefiting from manufacturing relocations.
  • The world is shifting toward new trade alliances, moving beyond a US-led order.

Headwinds:

  • The US faces persistent inflation, driven by tariffs, labor shortages, and lingering post-pandemic effects.
  • China’s prolonged deflation is weighing on domestic consumption and investment.
  • Europe confronts muted economic dynamism and mounting fiscal constraints.

Participation of the PSM Dean, Dario Silic, at this prestigious conference reflects the institution’s commitment to contributing to critical conversations about Europe’s economic and political future. Dean Silic emphasized the importance of academic institutions in shaping strategic thinking and preparing the next generation of leaders to navigate an increasingly complex global environment.
